EVENT ETHOS AND VALUES:
Respect Music aims to showcase the collaborative positive vibes of the Gold Coast Hip Hop scene with the rest of the world. This will be achieved via broadcasting a portion of the event on Radio Metro on a local level and via a Live-Stream to the rest of the world throughout the entire weekend on www.respectmusic.com/live.
“Respect The Technique” is a family friendly community event, as a result all participants should present themselves professionally and respectfully as positive contributors to the culture.The ethos of this event is to grow and strengthen the Hip Hop culture and community as well as broadening the potential for collaboration and of course elevating the creative output on the Gold Coast talent.
RULES AND GUIDELINES:
Applicants of all ages are welcome from anywhere interstate or internationally to perform as a part of our event and the greater Hip Hop family. However, in nurturing our local scene, the prize pools are only available to qualified local artists of the Gold Coast Region, this includes all suburbs listed below:

Beatmakers:
Participants will be given 2 tracks that they can choose to sample any parts from, to create a fresh and original beat. This will have to be done on site at Last Night On Earth and completed within the hr on whatever their preferred beat making platform ie: Laptop, MPC etc...We will have a panel of Industry Professionals judge the final submissions, with the winner taking home the prize pool and also having their track be the feature for the first ever Gold Coast Posse cut, as mentioned in the MC competition category of the night.
MCs:
So this isn’t a traditional freestyle battle but rather a Gold Coast posse cut, where we will have every registered Gold Coast MC lay down a 16 bar rap. Being this will be broadcast and live-streamed to the world, we want to represent the art form on behalf of the GC to the best of our abilities. As a result, we ask that all registered participants keep profanities to a minimum and if necessary they are used to passionately emphasise topics of a positive nature. No derogatory or offensive language or raps about sex, drugs and money. This is a community event and we wish keep the vibes positive and appreciate you all keeping topics aligned and influenced by the following: Hip Hop, 50 Year Anniversary, Gold Coast, Community, Collaboration, Positivity, Respect, Love, Hip Hop’s Subcultures ie: Street Art, Graffiti, MC’s, Breakdancers, Beatboxers, DJ’s, Beat Makers etc.
Beatboxers:
We are yet to have this category scheduled into the event, but it will most likely take place on the Saturday with the MC's, should we have enough participants.
Street Artists:
We are still working on the logistics of this category. As it will require more space and materials than the others, regrettably this category, may or may not be factored into the final event schedule. However we have included it here to gauge interest nonetheless.
